Trail Overview
NFS 8022 is an exciting bidirectional connector trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located between FS 5000, this trail is easily accessible and is a great connector to get from one end to the other. Most of the trail is a combination of dirt and sand with sections that have tons of overgrowth both on the trail and around it. Starting out, you'll twist and turn in an overgrown section of the forest. It almost makes you feel like you are about to head into the abyss. This section includes a lot of low-hanging trees to watch out for. As you progress down the trail, it becomes more of a dirt surface with leaves completely covering it. This quickly leads you to some amazing views. This is a pretty straightforward connector trail, but definitely needed, especially if you don't choose to do all of NFS 5000, which is a pretty long one. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause downed trees, washouts, & mud holes. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails! This is a fun trail with some exciting things to see. It still contains lots of beauty in the forest, and regardless of the conditions or difficulty.
