Trail Overview
FS 5000 is a 2.8-mile bidirectional trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located either off FS 8019 or FS 598, this trail is easily accessible. This is a unique trail in Michigan at 2.8 miles long, as most of our trails in Michigan are a mile long or less. Most of the trail is a combination of dirt and sand, like its neighboring trails, which makes it a pretty standard Michigan two-track, but interesting in its own way. You'll begin in a thick section of the forest on a dirt and sand-covered surface. The trail here is back and forth and twists and turns multiple times, but that to me is what makes it a unique and interesting trail. As you continue down the trail, the surface becomes more rutted. This track will reward you with incredible views of towering red pine trees that are sure to keep you amazed. There are quite a few washouts along the way as well, so tire placement is key when you come across these areas. There is also one larger muddy rutted area that is a bit tricky to navigate, so keep that in mind as well. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause downed trees, washouts, & mud holes. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails! This trail contains lots of scenic views with lots of fun to be had. Regardless of the length or conditions, this is a great through trail with other awesome trails nearby!
