Trail Overview

Benton East Trail is an out-and-back trail within the Traverse City Forest Management Unit. Located just off Benton Road, this trail is easily accessible. Starting out, you'll begin on a gravel/dirt/sand Michigan two-track. As you continue down the trail, it gets a little difficult from time to time to tell where the trail actually goes. Shortly after, the track begins to narrow with more overgrowth as well as low-hanging trees. As always, be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails! As you weave along the remainder of the trail, you may come across some washouts and/or mud holes. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come prepared. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. The end of the trail finishes at a small turnaround loop right before you hit private property. Please make sure you turn around before you get to the private property so you are not trespassing. This is not a difficult trail, but it contains a lot of beauty and gives access to other great recreation.
