Trail Overview
This is a gorgeous trail that starts paved and turns to a gravel road that is fairly well maintained. However, some sandstone boulders make it not graded perfectly smooth. The gravel road leads you past some newly built homes to a split in the road, which continues privately to the left, a dirt road to the right. This dirt road starts with a hill climb that can be slick in wet conditions and has a tree down over the road that larger full-sized trucks and people with lots of overland gear may find difficult to navigate. Some off-camber sections require careful navigation to avoid falling into the ruts. Some of them have washed out and could cause some body damage to vehicles without rock rails or enough wheel poke. Some vehicles will find themselves 3-wheeling, navigating through the washes. It ends with a descent through a hemlock grove that is a little rocky but not extremely difficult and exits onto a portion of the Kentucky Adventure Trail. This trail is a new southern addition to the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway.
Difficulty
There are some off-camber areas that will cause vehicles to 3-wheel a bit. There are also some rocks with shape edges to navigate over and obstacles that prevent super tall vehicles from proceeding. A 4WD vehicle with street tires may find this trail difficult in wet conditions, as it would be nearly impossible to stay out of the washes. The road is mostly only wide enough to pass one vehicle after it turns to dirt and has some rocks that will hit a skid plate or two after crossing.
