Trail Overview
This trail is generally simple and approachable, with smooth terrain for most of its length. However, it becomes significantly more demanding at the steep hill climb. The ascent is short but sharp, requiring solid traction and momentum, especially in wet conditions. While the rest of the trail offers no major obstacles, the challenge increases at the bottom, where the trail connects directly into the mud hole of Champlin’s Challenge, a notoriously deep and bottomless mud hole known for trapping vehicles. Drivers should be prepared with recovery gear and be confident in their rig’s capabilities before attempting. Although most of the trail is mild, the combination of a steep climb and the muddy bottom makes it more challenging.
History
This park was formerly known as Sandy Bottoms, and longtime visitors may still refer to it by that name. The access road and staging area have evolved over time, but it remains a well-known local spot for off-road events and community rides.
