Trail Overview
This trail descends directly to the Arkansas River sand bar and should be considered a highly challenging trail. The final approach to the water is extremely steep, putting your vehicle in a near-vertical position as you drop in or attempt to climb out. The ground near the river is a mix of loose sand and slick mud, making traction difficult and increasing the likelihood of getting stuck without proper equipment. Due to these conditions, this trail is not suitable for stock or lightly modified vehicles. Large tires, significant horsepower, lockers, and reliable recovery gear are strongly recommended. Only experienced drivers with capable rigs should attempt this route. Keep in mind that the changing water levels can make the sand bar disappear.
Difficulty
This trail is very difficult due to the near-vertical river entry and exit, combined with loose sand and mud. It demands big tires, high horsepower, lockers, and strong recovery capability. Only recommended for experienced drivers with well-built rigs.
History
This park was formerly known as Sandy Bottoms, and longtime visitors may still refer to it by that name. The access road and staging area have evolved over time, but it remains a well-known local spot for off-road events and community rides.
