Trail Overview
This trail descends toward the Arkansas River and typically provides access to a sandbar, but conditions can change drastically depending on water levels. At the time of mapping, the river was high enough that the sandbar was not visible. The hill leading down is moderately steep and transitions into a muddy, sandy base near the water, which can be difficult to climb back out of if traction is lost. Due to the loose terrain, larger tires and sufficient horsepower may be necessary to be able to exit. This trail should only be attempted with caution and proper recovery equipment on hand.
Difficulty
This trail poses a moderate challenge due to loose sand and a steep, muddy climb back out. High river levels can make the sandbar inaccessible, and insufficient traction may leave vehicles stuck. Proper tires, power, and recovery gear are strongly recommended.
History
This park was formerly known as Sandy Bottoms, and longtime visitors may still refer to it by that name. The access road and staging area have evolved over time, but it remains a well-known local spot for off-road events and community rides.
