Trail Overview
Willow Creek Trail is a 1.5-mile-long dirt bike-only trail that is a bailout from or access point to the Fossil Ridge single track. The trail is more like an old mining road that is now only designated for dirt bikes, remaining very wide the whole time. It’s a semi-steep descent from north to south, dropping over 700 feet in elevation over 1.5 miles. The north end rides through high elevation meadows and forest, starting out at almost 11,900 feet elevation, so you can expect changing weather conditions at high altitude. It descends past a scree field and some scenic rock outcroppings, riding through the pine trees. The trail is frequently covered in loose and embedded rocks that make it a bumpy ride, but not overly difficult. There are a few rockier spots with bigger embedded rocks, short ledges, and chunky slab rock layers, sometimes slightly off-camber. The trail makes several wide hairpin turns as it switchbacks down the mountain, then continues as a shelf road until the metal pinch point/gate at the south end of the trail, where it ends on Willow Creek Road.
Difficulty
This is a moderately easy dirt bike trail due a semi-steep grade with lots of loose and embedded rocks, and a few easy switchbacks. There are a few short rock ledges about a foot tall, but the trail is very wide, and you can choose good lines through the rocks.
