Trail Overview
Alder Creek Trail is a mile-long section of ATV trail that parallels Alder Creek through the Gunnison National Forest. It starts off FS Road 210 on the south end and connects to the single-track McIntyre Gulch Trail. The designation changes to dirt bike only on the north end as the trail goes through a gate in a meadow, just before going past some ruins of old log mining cabins. The trail runs at the base of a sagebrush-covered hillside along the creek, lined with short aspens, but with wide-open views in the gulch. The trail goes straight north – it’s a narrow dirt two-track with ruts and overgrown grassy sections, and has several rockier sections with small boulders embedded in the trail that are easy to ride over. Watch for mud and ruts, and a few sections are slightly more off-camber and narrow due to the ruts. It’s overall very scenic and easy, and approachable for less experienced riders.
Difficulty
This is a short and easy trail due to the fact that the trail remains very flat and gradual throughout the 1-mile route. It has a few bigger embedded rocks, but does not have any major obstacles or ledges. There are a few muddy and rutted sections. The trail is also somewhat narrow. Overall, it’s very easy, with low consequence, and approachable for newer riders.
