Trail Overview

Rule Ridge is a 16.2-mile off-road route in Pike National Forest near Divide, Colorado. Ranging from 8,238 to 9,087 feet in elevation, this moderate trail features unpaved surfaces and connects to a large network of trails suitable for ATVs, dirt bikes, and high-clearance 4WD vehicles. Large camping areas accommodating RVs and trailers are located at both ends of the route. Most of the route is straightforward, but a steep, rough downhill segment on Forest Service Road 358 requires careful tire placement. Optional side loops like F.S. 357A and 357B offer narrower, steeper, and washed-out terrain best suited for ATVs and dirt bikes.

Difficulty

Moderate. Most of this route is easy except for a short downhill section on F.S. 358 between Waypoints 04 and 06. This section is steep and rough in spots. An optional side loop, starting at Wpt. 03 and going around 357A and 357B, is quite narrow and steep. When we attempted to drive it in our stock Wrangler, we encountered some badly washed-out sections. The area is better suited for ATVs and dirt bikes.

Very tame trail. One steep narrow part of you take the right when it splits. 4L stock Tacoma walked up it no drama.

Pretty easy trail for the most part. I would say it’s a green trail except for one very small/tight section that was a little rougher and required some more articulation. Easy enough in my stock Ranger Tremor.

This was a great trail! Pretty easy, 2WD car will have some troubles on the steep grades and big berms/ruts. Only “trickier” spot is stretch on 358 where it gets narrow and steep, but that’s about it. Great views!!

Did the whole loop in an hour. Lots of ATV and SxS traffic. Some amazing views. Only slightly rough spot was at the north end of the loop going downhill towards the west.

Just did the East side of the trail from south to north. Some traffic on the road. The road wasn’t bad, passed a converted ambulance and small explorer so trail isn’t too difficult. Some steep berms for erosion prevention.
