Trail Overview
This trail begins from the dispersed camping area as the continuation of the route on Hotel Gulch Road. From the dispersed camping area, stay right to begin the trail. The route starts with a moderate rolling climb for approximately 0.25 miles before reaching a fork. Stay left to avoid a deep washed-out creek crossing.
Continue following the left route as the washout parallels the trail uphill. Along the climb, you will encounter several large rut mounds and exposed tree roots that require exciting maneuvering, along with a single protruding rock approximately 1 foot tall. While the trail is not particularly rocky overall, these obstacles provide the primary technical challenge.
The trail finishes at the top of the hill, where it connects to a larger network. Turn right at the junction for access to beautiful dispersed camping and scenic overlooks, making the drive well worth the trip.
Difficulty
There are several larger rut mounds, exposed tree roots, a 1-foot rock obstacle, and the washed-out section near the beginning. Careful line choice is recommended through these areas. The trail is primarily dirt with very few rocky sections, but recent rain or snow can significantly increase the difficulty.
