Trail Overview

You will definitely want to check out Empire Hilton cabin along the route of this trail. It is first come, first serve, so get there early if you want to use it. Be respectful and pack out trash. The route begins as a country road that passes through private property. Open all year.

A lot of trees blown down from the wind. About a mile up the trail the snow is pretty deep in the shaded areas.

Done in a 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk 3in lift on 32's with BFG ko3 A/T's. Thought this was a nice moderate trail, definitely one or two times the rock sliders touched but I was able to avoid any other damage. Pretty narrow trail between trees in a bunch of different parts (you will notice all the places other vehicles have damaged the trees). A couple of times during the trail there were some technical sections, but nothing more than getting out re-looking at what the tires were getting caught on and maybe putting a little bit more bump into the initial start. Completed in just under 4 hours but ran the trail at a slow pace because of the light snow. It does take a while to get from the staging area to the start of the loop... And you have that same amount of time back once you get off the loop. I think total time from staging area to getting back onto asphalt road was about 5 and 1/2 hours. I ran the trail starting West... Not sure if that's considered up or down but down might be slightly more challenging?

Heavily washed out from recent rains. Large exposed Boulders before Mill Creek loop were impassable in my Colorado ZR2

As many others have said, the bottom section of the trail is difficult. I’d call this a technical 7+. You must have rock sliders and skid plates; plan to damage your rig.

This trail starts harder and gets easier near the top. So if you don’t go up on this trail don’t come down on it. We went up on the adjacent trail and went down on this trail. Don’t do that, unless you have a very capable vehicle. There’s a lot of washouts, tough obstacles, steep steep grades and it’s very tippy in spots. We have a stock jeep and it took us a very long time to get down. We got high centered on the last tough rock and had to get rescued.

We did this trail coming down from Bill Moore Lake trail. (We did not come up) Done with modified Nissan Xterra and full size Nissan Titan. You will get Rocky Mountain pin striping, you will damage something if you do not have skid plates or rock sliders. This is a solid 7 trail. Tippy factor, obstacles for entire trail that require spotter, none of it is “easy” and has Very limited pull off spots for others coming up. Probably why we were the only ones coming down, you can take Bill Moore trail back down which is a little wider and easier if you go up, but going down this trail is a whole nother challenge. Have fun!

Erosion, Rocky, Rutted, and Jagged Rocks. Damage to driveshafts on two of the rigs in our group. Winches were used on a couple of the obstacles. One rig lost their front driveshaft.

Hood high snow drift at the Wiykovics claim and several smaller drifts past that. People had gone off trail farther to the right but had turned around at the other drifts.
