Nipple Peak

Nipple Peak is an intermediate 7-mile single track in the Routt National Forest north of Steamboat, Colorado that is full of beautiful meadows, shelfy sections, tight curves, rock sections, and big roots. The trail is really silty, making it rather dusty, especially on hot summer days. The trail goes through a good mix of tree sections where there is good shade, and big wide open meadows where you get a lot of sun. The scenery is awesome as you ride through sage brush and aspen trees in the meadows, and through exposed mountainsides when the trail gets narrower and shelfier. Some of the challenges on this trail include big roots, exposure, and very tight curves in the meadows. The west half of the trail after the road crossing is harder with even more roots and rocks. A lot of the roots are dry, so they aren't slippery. There are a couple of small switchbacks on loose dirt near the west end of the trail. The single track ends when it turns into the Nipple Peak ATV trail and widens up to a two-track.
