Trail Overview

Flag Creek Trail is an easy and fun single track in the Crested Butte Trail System that descends gradually on a flowy dirt trail for 3.5 miles, connecting FS 759 to FS 744. The north end starts in high alpine meadows above 11k feet, riding through sagebrush-covered hillsides. The trail looks like it gets a lot of use, with rutted switchbacks, tons of whoops, and wide sections. It starts descending through a couple of sweeping, gradual switchbacks, with minor loose rocks or embedded rock layers in the trail, and it side-hills across a gradual grassy slope. Expect a few muddy, rutted spots and short rocky creek crossings. It does some narrow side-hilling along Flag Creek. There is one bigger obstacle halfway through the route with several embedded boulders, but there is an easy line to the side of the boulders, as the trail is really wide here, so it is not overly difficult.

Difficulty

The majority of the trail is very easy, being flowy, fast, and gradual. However, there are a few narrower side-hilling segments, a rocky creek crossing, and one bigger rock obstacle that has an easy line through it. Expect changing conditions at high elevation, including fast-moving weather patterns.
