Trail Overview
The lower section of this trail is relatively easy, but it gets noticeably more difficult as you gain elevation. Once you start climbing toward the peak, the trail becomes more rutted and steep, with a couple of off-camber sections to navigate. There are also several switchbacks, and one of them was particularly challenging on the way back down. The views at the top are absolutely incredible and, and make the harder sections well worth it. There are also designated camping spots along the trail, and we stayed at one of them during our trip. Overall, this is a great trail if you're looking for a mix of off-road driving, camping, and some seriously impressive mountain views. Just be prepared for the trail to get significantly more challenging as you climb toward the top.
Difficulty
The lower portion of the trail is fairly easy, but the difficulty increases significantly as you climb toward the peak. The upper section has steep, heavily rutted terrain, several off-camber sections, and tight switchbacks that can be challenging, especially on the descent. Trail conditions can also change depending on weather. A capable 4WD vehicle with good clearance and an experienced driver is recommended for the upper section. The challenging terrain is well worth it for the incredible views at the top.
