Trail Overview
Bull Mountain is a solid pick for riders looking for a moderate off-road challenge in northern Colorado’s Routt National Forest. Best suited for ATVs, UTVs, motorcycles, and other OHVs, this multi-use forest route runs along an old logging road that climbs steadily into alpine terrain with classic Rocky Mountain views.
Expect a dirt and light rock surface typical of Forest Service roads, with occasional debris and washouts after storms. The trail is open seasonally and doubles as a snowmobile route in winter, so wheeled access is limited during snowy months. Always check with the local ranger district and consult the MVUM before heading out. Located just north of North Michigan Reservoir, the trail branches near the water, offering a scenic detour for those wanting to explore more of the area.
Difficulty
This trail has steep climbs, loose gravel, and ruts ranging from 6–10 inches. Higher-clearance vehicles with 4WD or AWD are recommended for traction and clearance on uneven sections. Wet conditions can significantly increase difficulty due to reduced traction and slippery terrain.
