Trail Overview

Beginning off Trail Gulch Road, this scenic BLM loop is an enjoyable and varied backcountry drive. The trail starts in open sagebrush country before gradually climbing into a classic pinyon-juniper woodland, where expansive views and several dispersed camping opportunities can be found along the route. While generally easy to navigate, drivers should be mindful of occasional loose and sharp rocks, as well as a few narrow sections where closely spaced trees and low branches may present challenges for full-size vehicles. As the route progresses, it descends from the pinyon-juniper ecosystem and returns to open sagebrush terrain before reaching its junction with the connecting BLM road.

Difficulty

In dry conditions, this trail is relatively straightforward and presents few challenges for experienced drivers. The most difficult sections are found on the eastern side of the route, where descents feature deep silt, ruts, and loose terrain that may require careful tire placement. This difficulty rating reflects dry conditions only. Following rain or storms, the trail can become significantly more challenging as muddy conditions reduce traction and increase the difficulty of navigating the steeper sections.
