Trail Overview
This is a through route connecting Tames Creek Road to Power Road. The trail is primarily a narrow dirt two-track with sections of loose rock, shallow ruts, and occasional embedded rocks. Much of the route travels across open hillsides covered in grasses, sagebrush, and low-growing vegetation, providing wide views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Other sections pass through stands of aspens where the trail briefly narrows between the trees. There are no major technical obstacles along the route, but several sections have sustained grades that require good traction. When dry, the trail is manageable for a high-clearance 4x4 with good low-range gearing. Wet conditions can make the dirt surface slick and significantly increase the difficulty of the steeper grades. History
The mountains surrounding Eagle, Edwards, and Avon have long been used for transportation, ranching, grazing, timber, mining, and recreation. Many of the roads found throughout the area developed from older access routes connecting ranches, mountain valleys, grazing areas, and resource sites. The region's history is closely tied to the Eagle River Valley, which became an important transportation corridor through the central Colorado mountains. Remnants of earlier land use and historic routes can still be encountered throughout the surrounding public lands.
