Trail Overview

his 2.5-mile out-and-back trail branches off the Red Cap (FS43N08) route, serving as a repurposed logging track that climbs 430 feet to offer a commanding perspective of the region. As you ascend above the meadows, the route provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges. The trail also offers a somber, up-close look at the aftermath of the 2021 Antelope Forest Fire. The area is largely barren of living trees, and you will see extensive evidence of salvage logging and fire cleanup efforts, characterized by large, orderly piles of salvaged timber awaiting removal.

Difficulty

Carrying a rating of 2, the trail is surfaced with gravel and maintains a width of 1 to 1.5 vehicles. While the surface itself is relatively stable, the route is a shelf road with a steep drop-off. You must exercise constant caution, especially when meeting oncoming traffic or navigating tight turns. The lack of standing timber means there is very little to break a fall, and the exposed nature of the shelf makes this a route that demands full driver attention and a steady hand at the wheel.
