Trail Overview

This 7-mile point-to-point trail starts on Highway 15, also known as the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway, and ends at Medicine Lake Road FS 43N49. The route travels through the Klamath National Forest, with portions passing through the area devastated by the 2021 Antelope Fire, which burned over 154,000 acres. Many spur trails branching off this route within the burn area remain closed due to downed trees, limiting exploration options in those sections. The trail includes a shelf road section at some point along the route, rewarding drivers with enhanced scenic views from the elevated vantage point. Ground foliage throughout the trail remains sparse but is actively growing, including snowbrush ceanothus and pinemat manzanita bushes, showing gradual ecological recovery from the fire while still revealing the open, post-burn landscape character.
