Trail Overview
This 2.6-mile point-to-point trail is a scenic route winding through the Shasta National Forest, starting from the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway (Highway 15) and terminating at Red Cap (FS 43N08). Characterized by its beautiful forest scenery, the trail offers a visually pleasing drive through a lush, green environment. While the primary path itself is relatively smooth, the surrounding vegetation is dense and tightly hugs the corridor, creating an immersive backcountry experience that connects the main scenic highway to the deeper forest network.
Difficulty
Carrying a rating of 3, this route presents several distinct obstacles despite its generally smooth track. The primary challenges stem from tight, overgrown brush that narrows the path and can cause vehicle pinstriping, alongside a few logs under 12 inches that must be driven over. Additionally, you will encounter a couple of large downed trees blocking the main path. Navigating the established bypasses around these trees requires careful tire placement; high clearance is required, and a 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended to safely manage these detours.
