Trail Overview
This 2+ mile point-to-point route connects Porcupine Butt South FS - 41N36 with Stud Hill South - FS 42N26, running through a pine forest and many manzanita bushes. The trail stays 1.5 vehicles wide, with a dirt surface covered in a layer of old pine needles and pine cones. Coming from the west side, the trail starts as a nice, easy drive. As you approach the east side, though, conditions change considerably. This section becomes very overgrown by manzanita, with low clearance issues from overhanging branches, and the ride gets noticeably bumpier. The trail also cuts across a power line corridor, where piles of volcanic rock are visible. Due to all the rocks and manzanita, there's very little room for dispersed camping along this route. In some spots, the manzanita has grown into the trail and even into the median, so expect some really bad pinstripes through these sections.
Difficulty
This trail carries an easy difficulty rating of 3, with overgrown manzanita along the eastern section, low-hanging branches, and a bumpier surface presenting the main considerations along the route.
