Highway 88 Trail - FS 21564

A quick, challenging route. Start at Highway 88; the trail entrance is well-hidden between two snow posts. You'll want to air down immediately due to the rocky terrain - and there are spots to do so upon trail entry, but don't miss your chance. You'll briefly pass through forest, to quickly begin your climb to the treetops and beyond. Rapidly, you'll find that you've left the relative cover of the trees behind and you're now surrounded by scrub brush (sage, buckbrush, and manzanita) as you traverse the rocky slope in technical switchback after technical switchback (10 to be exact). While the trail itself isn't terribly difficult, the heights combined with the lack of cover and narrow trail make for a slow but high-energy climb. This trail intersects with the Crater Lake Trail to bring you to the mountain top.
