Trail Overview

Forest Service 3N39Y begins directly off FS 03N01 adjacent to Fahey Cabin, passing through an open, lockable gate as it branches into the dense woodlands of the Stanislaus National Forest. The route travels through a lush timberland shaded by towering conifers and framed by a flourishing understory of leafy brush and ferns. Primarily utilized for dispersed forest recreation and reaching the Wrights Crossing vicinity, this narrow, single-lane passage provides a scenic out-and-back spur deeper into the woods. While older maps display a throughway connecting back via route FS 17EV205, that connector road no longer exists, and the official trail concludes at this intersection. Continuing south past the Wrights Crossing junction is strongly discouraged, as the unmaintained path becomes completely consumed by extreme brush overgrowth and terminates abruptly at an impassable downed tree on steep terrain with dangerous turnaround margins.

Difficulty

Rated a 2, the maintained portion of this route consists of smooth, hard-packed dirt blanketed with pine needle duff and minor loose soil that standard vehicles can navigate with ease during dry weather. The road is single-lane width with limited sightlines through the trees. Extreme caution is warranted near Wrights Crossing; continuing south beyond this intersection leads into severe vegetation encroachment, tight clearances, and a blocking downed tree that makes vehicle maneuvering exceedingly hazardous.
