Trail Overview
This relatively well-maintained road winds into the mountains through the Swain Mountain Experimental Forest, offering a beautiful drive through the surrounding landscape. There are a couple of downed trees along the route, but they have been cleared, allowing vehicles to pass. The trail continues through a burned forest area, where the open terrain provides lovely views as you climb higher into the mountains. At the end of the road, you’ll find a small tower and a beautiful view overlooking the area. It can be quite windy at this elevation, so be prepared for exposed conditions when stopping to enjoy the scenery. The area at the end also offers a great spot for dispersed camping, making it a worthwhile destination for anyone looking to spend time in the mountains. Access is seasonal, with the road open from April 1 through December 25. Plan your visit within this period, and check for any additional closures before setting out. ATVs, UTVs, Side-by-Sides, and Dirt Bikes must always have a valid California ATV Operating Permit sticker.
