Trail Overview
This 2-mile point-to-point trail is designed to link Railroad Grade 77 with the Ragwort trail system within the Klamath National Forest. Like much of the surrounding area, it passes through the footprint of the 2021 Antelope Forest Fire, which devastated over 154,000 acres. While initial cleanup efforts have removed much of the fire-damaged timber from the immediate path, the landscape remains fragile. The route is characterized by high-contrast scenery, with vast expanses of new-growth sagebrush emerging where the forest canopy was lost. It is a stark environment that serves as a reminder of the ongoing ecological recovery.
Difficulty
Carrying a rating of 2, the trail surface consists of loose dirt mixed with small, embedded rocks. While the first mile is generally passable, the route currently terminates at the 1-mile mark due to a significant accumulation of downed trees blocking the path. Travelers should be prepared for the fact that this has effectively become a 2-mile out-and-back trail. Beyond the surface conditions, you must exercise caution regarding overhead and ground-level hazards; the fire-affected ground remains unstable, and standing burnt trees frequently collapse, creating new obstructions even after initial clearings.
