Trail Overview
Starting right off Highway 49, this segment of the Chapman Calpine trail acts as a fantastic, welcoming gateway that crosses the boundary line into the beautiful Plumas National Forest. It is important to note that there are two separate trails with this exact name that do not physically connect to one another, but this specific route eventually links up seamlessly with Chapman Saddle - 21N09. As you make your way through the dense, towering evergreens, the trail remains comfortably wide, measuring about one and a half to two car widths across. This generous space means you will have absolutely no problem safely passing any oncoming traffic you might encounter. Because the thick forest canopy closely hugs the edges of the road, the route winds through the trees without offering any real sweeping vistas or open views. While you might spot a couple of small pull-offs along the shoulders, there is no real space suited for setting up a dispersed campsite. Ultimately, this is a delightfully straightforward, tree-lined cruise that lets you simply enjoy the peaceful, deep woods atmosphere.
