Trail Overview
Haskell Sheep Ranch, a wonderfully varied loop that branches off the Mohawk Chapman route and reconnects just below Chapman Saddle. The journey begins with a flat, easy quarter-mile stretch before transitioning into a steady, gradual incline through beautifully dense pine forests. You will encounter a dynamic mix of smooth gravel and packed dirt, with a tidy, well-maintained feel thanks to recently cleared deadfall lining the road. As you meander along the hillside cuts, the dense trees occasionally break to offer lovely glimpses of the sprawling valley below and a scenic little meadow dotted with scattered trees. While there is only one notable spot for dispersed camping early on, there are plenty of intriguing side roads, wide pull-offs, and offshoots to explore. Keep an eye out as the road noticeably widens further along, signaling an active logging operation with equipment staged nearby. The final stretch of the trail transitions from smooth gravel into a much rougher, bumpier dirt surface pocked with small divots, providing a fun and engaging finish to your forest adventure.
