Trail Overview

Bonta Ridge is an occasionally maintained gravel Forest Service road that climbs from Bonta Creek Road above the CA-70 highway up to Penman Saddle and points beyond in this section of the Plumas National Forest. This is a seasonal road that climbs up above 7,000 feet, and one should be prepared to be blocked by snow as late as early June.

Some shallow ruts and large free rolling rocks. Trail was a little eroded in places, but never enough to be an issue. I did get a small puncture from metal debris on the road.

Made it up about 80%, then about 6-8in of snow and a fallen down tree which was already cut (but not fully out of the way) prevented me from going further. In the dry passable, but the snow made it to close to the edge - risking unwanted sliding. Decided to back out a mile and turn around.
