Trail Overview
Mohawk Creek - FS 22N42 begins off Mohawk Chapman Road and acts as a steady, twisting dirt climb up the mountain. Forest Service signage at the start indicates that this route was primarily used as a logging road, as supported by the wide, graded dirt surfaces and clearings with slash piles visible along the way. The trail climbs roughly 300 meters (about 984 feet) in elevation from start to finish. While there are a few pullouts along the track, they offer little to no views; the main point of interest is at the very end of the trail. The surface is mostly hard-packed dirt with some minor embedded rock sections that are easy to navigate or avoid. The route culminates at a fantastic mountain vista featuring a wooden bench and a large clearing with ample space for dispersed camping.
Difficulty
This trail earns a 3 primarily due to the sustained elevation gain. The surface is wide, mostly smooth dirt with plenty of twists and turns, making it a very fun, easy ride for motorcycles and highly accessible for standard 4x4s. The embedded rocks are minor and easily avoided.
