Trail Overview

This route takes you through the stark, sobering landscape of a pine forest significantly altered by the 2021 Antelope Forest Fire. The terrain is characterized by the remnants of fire-affected timber, serving as a powerful display of the fire's reach and the subsequent recovery of the high-desert ecosystem. As you travel, the path cuts through this burnt environment, surrounded by a mix of recovering grasses and brush. It is a route for those looking to witness the long-term impact of fire on forest health. Note that due to significant blockages, this is currently an incomplete transit; you will encounter many downed trees that obstruct the full path, making it impossible to complete the entire route as originally mapped.

Difficulty

This trail earns a rating of 3 due to its technical impediments and unpredictable conditions. The surface consists of loose pumice dirt, which is frequently covered by thick grasses and brush that obscure the path and the center median. You will encounter several downed, dead trees throughout the route; while there are established bypasses for some, the trail is eventually blocked by multiple large fallen trees on the east side, necessitating an early turnaround. Additionally, the route features slightly off-camber sections and, on the west side, specific low-lying spots that transform into impassable mud pits following heavy rain. High clearance is recommended to navigate the uneven, debris-strewn surface safely.
