Trail Overview
Beginning at Tank Pass, this trail offers two distinct routes, each providing a different off-road experience. Heading east, the trail follows a loose rock wash filled with countless small- to medium-sized rock waterfalls. Multiple lines are available through most obstacles, allowing drivers and riders to choose the route that best matches their skill level and vehicle. Deep loose rock, hidden pockets, and uneven terrain require careful throttle control and precise wheel placement, as losing momentum or choosing the wrong line can quickly upset a vehicle. The trail briefly climbs out of the wash in a few locations before returning to the creek bed. Near the end of the eastern route, a large fallen saguaro lies across the trail and may require navigating around it for a long time. Traveling west from Tank Pass, the trail begins with a waterfall obstacle before transitioning into a wide, loose gravel wash. About a quarter mile farther, the wash widens and makes a sharp right turn, climbing over the bank into an adjacent wash that continues north and eventually reconnects with the northern section of Tank Pass. Beyond the initial waterfall, the remainder of the western route is non-technical with no significant obstacles. The broad wash provides plenty of room to choose your own line and enjoy a relaxed ride through the desert. Both directions are lined with Palo Verde trees, desert shrubs, and occasional thorny vegetation. Large debris, including fallen saguaros and tree limbs, can be moved by seasonal rains, so expect trail conditions to change over time. Flash flooding is possible during storms, and the washes may become impassable when wet.
