Trail Overview
The Wishing Rock Trail begins off Tank Trail or from Standing Tall is an out and back and leads to an impressive rock mountain that serves as the centerpiece of the route. This unique area features a popular wishing rock, a spacious dispersed camping area, and plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy the surrounding desert landscape. The trail is a smooth gravel road that transitions from wide to slightly narrower in places but remains an easy, large 2-track throughout. The route is lined with massive granite boulders, towering saguaros, cholla cactus, Palo Verde trees, creosote, and ocotillo, creating classic Sonoran Desert scenery. As you travel west, beautiful mountain views open across the landscape, making this a relaxing and scenic ride. The trail offers numerous spur roads to explore and can be combined with Standing Tall Trail to create a fun loop back to Tank Trail. The mapped route ends at private property, so please respect all property boundaries and do not continue beyond the posted area. This is an excellent trail for sightseeing, camping, and enjoying the open desert without technical challenges.
