Starting off Haekel Road, this out-and-back route runs through creosote-lined desert on a mostly gravel surface. There are a few minor ruts and washouts, small but sharp. Keep speeds reasonable and stay vigilant. The trail winds up and around several low hills and remains non-technical. High clearance 2WD and 4WD vehicles should be fine, though brush may leave pinstripes, and there’s slight potential for belly scrapes. Near the end, the trail splits and climbs to a scenic ridgeline. While the views are worth it, the route does not go through — a major washout blocks the way. Plan to back down the narrow shelf road, as there is no room to turn around if you go up on the ridge.
