Trail Overview
Old Wright Monument Trail - BLM PE1127 is a point-to-point 2-track route running north and south through the desert. Access is through a gate, which should be closed behind you. The trail consists of dirt and gravel with a wash crossing that requires traveling down and back up a small hill. High clearance is recommended, although the trail is passable in 2WD and 4WD under dry conditions. Wet weather can make the wash impassable. The route has a few water-drainage ruts but no significant obstacles or technical sections. About 0.75 miles north of the trail is a second monument marking the location associated with Lorenzo Wright, who was killed by Native Americans on December 1, 1885. The trail continues approximately another quarter mile north, passes through another fence gate, and ends at PE1126. Keep all gates closed while traveling the route.
Difficulty
No technical obstacles or challenging sections were found, but several water-drainage ruts and wash crossings will require you to pay attention. These crossings can become deep, soft, and potentially impassable following rain, so avoid the trail during wet conditions. High clearance is recommended.
History
This is marked as the Lorenzo Wright Monument. He was killed by Indians after they stole 35 horses, and his death site is .75 mile north of the highway. This is considered a historical park.
