Trail Overview
FS 228 starts off West Side Road and travels west along a wide, gravel two-track trail surrounded by pine forest, scattered aspens, and tall natural grass. This out-and-back trail features spur trails and camp rings along the route, providing access to additional areas for exploration. A water tank can also be seen along the route. The trail travels beneath a beautiful, wide tree canopy and is generally easy, with 2WD access in dry conditions. After rainfall, 4WD and high clearance are recommended due to the potential for large, deep mud holes. A scenic forest trail offering plenty of opportunities to explore the forest.
Difficulty
This easy gravel forest road has no obstacles or technical challenges. High-clearance 2WD/4WD vehicles are recommended, as mud holes can develop after rainfall. Watch for campers and hikers along the trail.
