Trail Overview
A short connector trail connecting to FS 205, routing through the forest to Murrys Lake trailhead, with a vault toilet and parking area nearby. The trail is an easy gravel road lined with pines and a stunning close-canopy patch of aspens — especially scenic in fall when the colors change. Tight and narrow in sections, but passable. 2WD or 4WD with high clearance is advisable. Watch for downed trees and wildlife. Be prepared to turn around or clear a path over the trees if needed.
History
The U.S. Forest Service began building trails in the 1890s when the national forests were first set aside as forest reserves. Early trails weren't scenic walks — they were designed as the most direct routes between two points, often for logging, fire access, or ranger patrol. Connector trails like FS 205C likely have roots in that utilitarian tradition. The presence of aspens and the trail's role as a shortcut between two numbered forest roads suggests it may have originally served as a logging or fire access route before being repurposed for recreational use.
