Trail Overview

FR 231D is a scenic detour off of the Edge of The World trail in the Coconino National Forest. There is a section on The Edge of The World trail that doesn't receive a lot of sun, so snow build-up stays well into spring, making it difficult to pass. This route takes you around that section. It has both forest tree views and plains views. The road has puddle crossings after snowmelt or rainfall--nothing difficult to get through. Driving through the path between the trees is breathtakingly beautiful.

Rugged and especially wet with roadblock puddles at almost every turn. This would be a fun ride if the rains weren't so heavy. I picked the right day to slip and slide. Bailed about halfway in just before the 526C.

Very easy, wide road driven in a 2WD Tacoma. With winter conditions there is lots of mud and ruts to be expected so 4WD would be preferred but not needed any other time of the year
