Trail Overview

This 6.5-mile point-to-point trail takes you from Fossil Creek to the Childs dispersed camping area along the Verde River. The last drop down to the campground is rated 2 Easy, do not attempt with a 2WD vehicle. There is a decommissioned Hydropower plant built in 1950 next to the campground. The trail up to the campground sign is passable by any 2WD vehicle.

I DID NOT attempt this road, but USFS staff confirmed this is most definitely NOT a 1/10. Description erroneously says last drop/climb is a 2/10. Based on the description USFS gave me, this really is a 2/10 most the way, and a 3/10 at the end. Loose rocks that would require 4WD to climb calls for a 3/10 rating…
