Trail Overview
This lightly traveled trail begins just south of Kilometer 133 on Highway 1, marked by a barbed wire gate that must be opened and closed behind you. Once inside, the path is mostly coated with about an inch of soft sand--enough to make for a relatively smooth and comfortable ride, though scattered ruts and occasional silt beds add some mild technical challenge. Rated for high-clearance 4WD vehicles, the route is best suited for side-by-sides or smaller rigs; even compact Jeeps may require trimming branches to avoid more than just pinstriping. About half a mile in, the trail opens to a wide, flat area ideal for camping before narrowing into a tighter corridor framed by desert vegetation. The initial stretch shows signs of recent motorcycle use, but as you progress, tire tracks become rare, emphasizing its remote, untouched feel. The terrain rolls gently, with a mix of surfaces and only a few deeper silt zones contributing to its moderate rating. In dry conditions, it's an enjoyable and scenic route, but note that several low sections could become tricky if wet. Toward the end, the trail broadens again, flowing smoothly toward Middle Road, with optional forks leading to other routes before reconnecting to the main road.
Difficulty
This trail presents mild technical challenges in a few spots, particularly for dirtbike riders who will need to choose their lines carefully to avoid the deeper silt pits. The difficulty rating is largely due to these silt bed sections--often affecting just one side of the trail--but they can be enough to make 4WD necessary. Airing down your tires is recommended to improve traction and ride comfort. Under dry conditions, the trail poses no serious obstacles for capable vehicles; however, the dynamics would change significantly in wet weather, where the low-lying areas could become far more difficult to navigate.
