Trail Overview

This route begins at Highway 1 and offers an easy drive suitable for 2WD vehicles with good ground clearance. The well-maintained road winds through stunning desert landscapes, eventually bringing you to the small town of El Rosario, roughly halfway along the trail. Here, you can visit a cactus reserve and enjoy a tour led by Lupe, who shares valuable insights about desert survival. Continuing past El Rosario, you'll encounter cattle, goats, and a small stream crossing--just a few inches deep--before heading up another well-maintained road over a cattle guard toward Valle Perdido. The drive is smooth with minimal washboarding, making it particularly enjoyable during the golden hours when the desert scenery is at its best. As you enter Valle Perdido, a sign warning of off-road racing rules confirms your arrival in this charming desert town.
