Trail Overview
El Cardon North branches off a central peninsula trail and leads into the town of El Cardon, a coastal community known for its seafood processing. From there, it turns north, crossing sections of salt flats before transitioning onto lightly washboarded but generally well-maintained flat roads, which are suitable for most vehicles without the need for 4WD. The trail passes briefly through Ejido Luis Echeverria and continues northward, though some roads in the area may be blocked by locals, requiring a bit of rerouting; fortunately, multiple alternatives are available. Eventually, the route connects with the main road linking San Juanico and San Ignacio, offering three options: turn left toward San Ignacio, right toward San Juanico, or continue straight onto a slightly more challenging onX-rated trail.
Difficulty
This is an easy route that doesn't require 4WD, but good ground clearance and basic sand-driving skills are always recommended when traveling in Baja. Conditions can vary, and being prepared ensures a safer, smoother experience.
