Campo de Camaron

This moderately maintained route begins at an old ranch marked by a sprawling oak tree and a couple of weathered brick structures that hint at a bygone era. Suitable for any 2WD vehicle, the trail heads west toward the coast, following an arroyo that eventually opens into an ocean inlet. As the road winds, you'll encounter a well-traveled fork to the right leading to a remote beach--more scenic but potentially requiring a higher clearance or more capable vehicle. Staying on the main route, you'll pass a series of dunes before reaching the gate of a shrimp farm. These gates are usually locked, but from this vantage point, you can see the ocean inlet--beautiful, but be cautious, as the currents are known to be swift.
