Trail Overview
This off-road trail begins just off paved Highway 22 and quickly immerses you in the quirky charm of rural Baja, passing a patchwork dwelling and a graffiti-covered bus that give the area a distinctly rustic character. As you continue, the trail winds briefly through mangroves before reaching a pair of popular local hangouts known as Quesadilla 1 and 2--sun-soaked spots along the inland waterway where families often gather. From there, the route stretches out straight for a few miles, cutting past sand dunes and skirting some less scenic outskirts of town. Soon, the landscape transforms as you take a hard right into the mangroves, where lush greenery and a refreshing coastal breeze offer a welcome change. The trail meanders through this vibrant corridor, with multiple side paths branching off toward quiet fishing holes and water access points. As the mangroves taper off, you'll pass a trail that loops back toward town, or you can continue to the intersection with the Powerline Road--turn right here for access to some scenic, lesser-known beaches, or left to reconnect with Highway 22.
Difficulty
This road is well-maintained and suitable for any vehicle with modest ground clearance. There's a brief section where you'll make a sharp right turn to cut over to the mangroves, passing through a lightly traveled stretch with about two to three inches of sand. While 4WD isn't necessary, drivers should be aware of the softer terrain. If you prefer a smoother route, check the map for alternate right-hand turns that connect to the mangroves via more frequently used and better-maintained roads.
