Trail Overview
This wide, well-graded gravel road offers a pleasant drive through the forest and excellent views of the surrounding mountains. The route provides access to a broader network of trails in the hills north of Fort Steele, as well as several possible random camping areas. Holmes Road runs toward the Sagum Lake Forest Service Road, but the direct connection is blocked. Access to the surrounding network is available by using the Wassa Dump Road. Another dirt track at the end of Holmes Road is also gated, as it provides access to private ranch property. The trail network beyond that gate can be reached by traveling around the backside farther north. For the best exploration opportunity, turn onto Lakit Creek FSR and continue uphill into the surrounding network of forest roads and trails. Cell service is intermittent and may disappear farther into the hills; download offline maps before traveling. The dirt track at the end of Holmes Road is gated and should not be used to access the private ranch or attempt to get to Sagum Lake.
Difficulty
The road is wide, graded, and is easy to travel. Be prepared for logging, ranch, and recreational traffic on connecting roads.
