Trail Overview
This is an easy, mostly smooth gravel route that passes through approximately 4 kilometers of Valley Ranch property under an access agreement. The road travels through forest on its northern end before descending toward the Kootenay River. The route offers stunning river views as it follows the river. Several dispersed camping opportunities and occasional pullouts exist, including areas beyond the private ranch property. A small side route near the northern end may lead toward a camping area; check signage and confirm that access is permitted before using it. The road passes through open cattle-grazing country, especially in the private easement. Livestock may be present on or beside the road. Further along, the route runs beside railway tracks, offering good viewing opportunities for train enthusiasts. At its southern end, Fenwick Road becomes paved and reconnects with the main road near the Kootenay Trout Hatchery and Visitor Center. A publicly accessible fishing pond is located at the hatchery area. Cell service is intermittent and may disappear along portions of the route; download offline maps before departing. Respect the Valley Ranch access agreement and remain on the designated road.
