Description
Barry’s Island Trail begins at Barry’s Landing Trailhead and follows a well-defined route onto the prominent peninsula jutting into Bighorn Lake. The trail contours across desert hills and open benches, with a few rocky sections as it meanders toward the island’s western tip. After the initial approach, the route generally follows the canyon rim, offering continuous views into the sheer-walled gorge below. Wildflowers bloom in spring, and bighorn sheep are occasionally seen along the cliffs. There are no major junctions to navigate, and the path remains clear and gradual throughout. Sun exposure is constant, with little to no shade, and rattlesnakes are common in warmer months. This is a scenic and moderately easy route for hikers seeking solitude, striking geology, and sweeping views of the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area.
