Description
This route begins and ends at the Killington Ski Resort base area, climbing through wooded service roads before meeting the Long Trail near Killington Peak. The ascent follows ski area terrain and old lift infrastructure, transitioning into a steep, rocky trail section as it nears the summit. Continue to the top of Killington Peak via a short but challenging spur through subalpine spruce-fir forest, where panoramic views of the Green Mountains and distant Adirondacks await. From the summit, return to the Long Trail and follow it across a ridgeline that can be exposed in poor weather. Descend steadily through forested terrain and reconnect with ski service roads to close the loop. This route covers varied terrain—expect uneven footing, occasional seasonal streams on lower sections, and no reliable water sources near the summit. It’s best tackled in summer or early fall, when snow has melted from upper elevations and visibility is high.
