The Stratton Pond Trail begins at the Stratton Pond Trailhead just off Stratton Arlington Road in southern Vermont. This route follows a former logging road through mixed hardwood and conifer forest, climbing gradually on a well-defined path. Expect rocky and root-covered stretches, especially in wetter conditions. The trail continues with gentle ups and downs, crossing small streams in spring and early summer. Around the halfway point, it enters a more shaded section where the terrain flattens out as you approach the pond.
Stratton Pond sits at the base of Stratton Mountain and offers open views across its quiet, glacial waters. Moose, beaver, and loons are often seen here, especially in the early morning or late evening. The Appalachian Trail/Long Trail junction is located just beyond the pond on the far side, offering connection options for extended routes. Designated campsites are available in the area for overnight stays, but fires are not permitted near the water. This is one of the best day hikes in the Green Mountain National Forest for those seeking solitude, scenic water features, and moderate terrain.
