There and Back
The Warren Path begins from a small pullout on Brook Road near Warren, Vermont, and climbs steadily through dense northern hardwood forest typical of the Green Mountains. The route follows a narrow, well-defined footpath, weaving past intermittent brooks and mossy boulders. Early in the hike, expect a moderate incline that gradually steepens, especially after the first half mile. Around the midway point, the trail skirts several small drainages—water sources here are seasonal and should be treated if used.
As the route gains elevation, the forest canopy begins to open slightly. Watch for occasional signs of wildlife like moose tracks or black bear scat, particularly in the early morning. Continue uphill along increasingly uneven footing until reaching an open vista near the top of the ridge. This high point offers sweeping views of the Mad River Valley to the east and the forested spine of the Northfield Range to the west.
Return the way you came. The trail’s solitude, combined with its moderate challenge and rewarding views, makes it one of the more peaceful day hikes in the Green Mountain National Forest.
